    A memorandum or memo is a document or other communication that helps the memory by recording events or observations on a topic, such as may be used in a business office. The plural form is either memoranda or memorandums.

    Business memo is generally considered a formal method of communication. If you have something confidential to communicate, don’t do it in a business memo.

    It’s important to keep your business memo as simple, brief and focused as possible for fast and easy understanding.

    All memos are structured similarly and have the following elements:

    • An addressee: Flush left in capital letters, near the top of the page
    • The sender: Flush left in capital letters, immediately below the addressee
    • Date: Flush left in capital letters, immediately below the sender’s name
    • Subject: Flush left in capital letters, immediately below the date
